Lebanon: adapting projects to stay close to the people

6 May 2026

Since the escalation of violence between Lebanon and Israel in early March 2026, the country has faced a severely deteriorated security situation. Repeated Israeli bombardments, ongoing instability, and internal displacement are affecting large areas of the country and leaving many families in a state of extreme vulnerability, complicating access to certain areas and the implementation of humanitarian aid. In this uncertain context, Asmae Lebanon is adapting its projects to ensure the continuity of essential activities, while placing the safety of teams, partners, and beneficiaries at the heart of its priorities. A flexible, localized approach allows us to continue supporting children, youth, and families where conditions permit, constantly adapting to the realities on the ground.

BRIDGE – Maintaining social ties and future prospects with young people

BRIDGE supports young Lebanese and Syrians in building their future through social cohesion, inter-community dialogue, and professional integration.

In the current context, the project prioritizes flexible approaches to ensure the continuity of activities despite security constraints. Vocational and entrepreneurial training is primarily delivered remotely. Partnerships with universities, shelters, and community networks have been strengthened to maintain the flow of participants. Security monitoring is being conducted in the Bekaa Valley with a view to a gradual return to in-person sessions, while certain hands-on training sessions there have been postponed until conditions improve.

PEACE 2 – Addressing the psychosocial needs of children affected by the crisis

PEACE 2 is a program dedicated to rebuilding the mental health and protecting children affected by war through psychosocial support and family assistance.

The project adopts a community-based approach by bringing services closer to affected communities.  In response to the emergency, interventions were expanded to several shelters without additional funding, thanks to the teams’ flexibility. Psychosocial support and parenting activities are conducted at home or directly in the shelters to reduce risks associated with travel. A strengthened referral system helps identify and support those most at risk.

Youth for Change – Ensuring educational continuity in more stable areas

Youth for Change aims to ensure young people’s access to training, employability, and psychosocial support.

The project adapts its activities according to the region. While operations continue as usual in the North, vocational training has been temporarily suspended in the South, with regular security reassessments. Implementation is proceeding gradually, with priority given to basic training. Youth-led advocacy activities are being adapted to address the emergency situation.

SPECIAL – Phase 2: Anticipating the Response in an Uncertain Context

SPECIAL – Phase 2 is an initiative currently under development aimed at strengthening the protection and support of children and families in South Lebanon, with an approach adaptable to the security context.

Development of the proposal continues despite an unstable environment. Geographical expansion toward Bint Jbeil remains under consideration, while incorporating an alternative scenario in the event of escalation or access restrictions. Asmae has finalized her contribution and is awaiting the consolidated version from the ISF partner before submitting it to headquarters for validation and guidance.
