In India, 50% of the population is under 25 years old. Young people are at the center of major challenges such as education and access to employment. In the city of Chennai, where several communities face exclusion and stigmatization, Asmae and its local partner, the Arunodhaya Association, are implementing the “Cap Jeunesse” program. It aims to improve the social and professional inclusion of the most vulnerable young people and to promote their rights to education and protection. Participation is a fundamental value. Two key elements foster this: the dissemination of information and capacity-building among stakeholders, including women, children, adolescents, volunteers, and staff. They are then actively involved in decision-making and program implementation. With Arunodhaya’s support, 150 young people were able to define their career paths and goals more precisely; 140 young people received support in accessing appropriate technical and vocational training; and 60 of them subsequently found employment. Between 2024 and 2027, 480 young people will enroll in the new
vocational training programs in computer science and accounting. As part of this program, skills such as leadership, decision-making, and emotional management are strengthened. The courses last three months, at the end of which participants receive a diploma, paving the way for careers as data entry clerks or accountants. In 2024, four sessions were held. At the same time, to support their transition into the workforce, Arunodhaya organizes company visits that provide employment opportunities for these young people once they graduate. Through this project, Asmae also supports middle and high school students by offering career guidance and preparation for adult life.
